The outbreak of the coronavirus had caused the deaths of over 904 individuals. Along with this, more than 40,000 people have been infected with the virus worldwide.

The Department Of Health (DOH) said on Monday that they had banned travel from Taiwan due to it being considered by the World Health Organization as a part of China.

According to an article by CNN, Taiwan, and its special administrative regions, Hong Kong and Macau are included in the ban as well.

Following this, Health spokesperson Eric Domingo said that the travel ban had been implemented last week. However, it was not part of President Duterte’s order on February 2.

Previously, we have learned that Duterte had banned travel from China, Hong Kong, and Macau or those passengers with history in those areas in the last 14 days.

As per the article, the national government has issued a temporary halt to Filipinos who wished to fly to China, Hong Kong, and Macau. The inclusion of the Taiwan ban means travel would be restricted for Filipinos going to the self-administered island that China considers as its province.

If you look at the WHO map and the number of cases that they have, Taiwan is included in China. Since we have a temporary travel restriction and ban on China, then Taiwan is included… It is enforced now,

However, the ban would only apply to foreign travelers, not Filipinos citizens and those who have permanent adress-visas from the Philippines.

Along with this, Taiwan foreign nationals have been barred entry since the 7th of February. With this, Domingo also added that officials in Taiwan were asking the Philippine government to reconsider the ban.
