China Applies For Patent On Potential Treatment For Wuhan Coronavirus
CHINA APPLIES FOR A PATENT – China has applied for a new patent on an experimental new drug that experts believe could fight against the Wuhan coronavirus.

According to a report from TIME, the new drug was called remdesivir. It was produced by Gilead Sciences Inc. to fight against the virus outbreak that had already taken more than 564 lives.
Gilead’s experimental new drug has not been licensed or approved in any part of the world. However, it had been rushed into human trials in China on patients infected with the coronavirus.
Patients who were given the new experimental drug showed signs of being incredibly effective. Meanwhile, based on a statement from the virology institute of Wuhan, the patent was applied for on January 21.
Scientist has found that the drug, remdesivir and chloroquine, an 80-year-old drug for malaria was “highly effective” during laboratory studies at fighting the coronavirus. However, the effectiveness of the drugs still required further clinical tests.
As per the report, the new experimental drug is now entering clinical trials in China on patients affected with the coronavirus. Along with this, the company is had shopped enough drugs to treat 500 patients.
Following this, the Wuhan Institute stated that it made the patent application out of national interest. It added that it won’t exercise its patent rights if foreign pharmaceutical firms work with China to contain the outbreak.
Similarly, Thai doctors have also claimed to combine two drugs that are effective in thwarting the virus. They used a mix of HIV drugs and flu treatments.
