Caballo Island, Fort Magsaysay Eyed to Be Quarantine Sites
Caballo Island and Fort Magsaysay are being considered as possible quarantine areas for Filipinos who will be repatriated from China.
It is a big challenge for our government to plan and solve the problems that Filipinos will face in the coming days after the first coronavirus (nCoV) case is officially announced in the Philippines. These plans include the presence of quarantine areas for the delivery of those affected by the nCoV
Caballo Island and Fort Magsaysay are being considered as possible quarantine areas for Filipinos who will be repatriated from China amid the novel coronavirus outbreak, Defense Secretary Delfin Lorenzana said on Friday.
“They are looking at both areas. No decision yet,” said Lorenzana, who’s also the chairman of the National Disaster and Risk Reduction Management Council.
According to the report of GMA News, Caballo Island is located at the entrance of Manila Bay while Fort Magsaysay is in Nueva Ecija. Lorenzana added that the government is looking for an area with isolated buildings.
Meanwhile, the Department of Health has requested that the travel ban be lifted immediately and not just focus on Hubei in the event of a new case or information on the nCoV.
Un-immediate government actions, especially on the travel ban, has been criticized by many Filipinos. President Duterte is set to meet next week with medical experts and government officials to discuss and plan what to do to prevent the situation from escalating.
