Lawyer, Driver Found Killed In Sta. Rita, Pampanga
PAMPANGA – A lawyer and his driver were found dead in a shooting incident in the town of Sta. Rita, Pampanga on January 28 (Tuesday).
According to SunStar, reports from Sta. Rita police show that the two fatalities, identified as lawyer Anselmo Carlos and driver Marcial Mendoza were killed in front of San Vicente Chapel along the Porac-Guagua Road in Barangay San Vicente at abot 9:10 AM on Tuesday.
Both died from several gunshot wounds to their heads and bodies. The suspects fled the crime scene via a motorcycle.
Carlos was said to be a prospective mayoralty candidate in the town of Floridablanca in 2013. He prominently figured in many land dispute cases in Region III. He is also rumored to be a lawyer for LLL Holdings in the Hacienda Dolores land dispute in 2013.
As per the report, the police said that Carlos and Mendoza had come from a court hearing at the Hall of Justice in Guagua. They were on their way home when they were assaulted.
As they reach the chapel, three men approached their vehicle on the road on foot. Then they knocked on the window and fired at them.
The Integrated Bar of the Philippines (IBP) immediately condemn the murder of the said lawyer.
“We are shocked and saddened that one of our members has been added to the growing number of lawyers falling victim to senseless killings. Once again, rule of law has been attacked. We call on law enforcement authorities to make a swift action to bring to justice the perpetrators of this dastardly act and to exert all efforts in trying to put a stop to the killing of lawyers,”
Recovered from the scene were empty bullet shells from caliber .45 pistols. Investigators are looking into the motive behind the kiling.
