Recently, the US had confirmed its first case of the virus. However, the detection happened prior to the tightening of airport screenings for the Wuhan coronavirus.

The man that was diagnosed with the virus had come to the US on January 15th. This was also the case for the latest patient, who arrived in Chicago on January 13.

According to a report from CNN, the patient was a resident in Chicago in her 60s. In addition, she was put in isolation at a hospital in Chicago and is in stable condition.

The patient was not ill while traveling. This prompts US health authorities to believe she did not spread the virus during that time.

As per the report, health authorities stated that the woman had limited close contacts when she returned and had not used public transportation, attended a large gathering, or was in close contact with anybody outside her home.

Following this, 63 people from 22 states in the US are being monitored for the virus. Of that number, 11 were tested negative and two of the patients (Chicago and Washington) were tested positive.

According to the CDC, there would be several more to be under investigation in the coming days. However, the CDC stated that the immediate health risk of the coronavirus to Americans is “low at this time”.

We understand that some people are worried about this virus and how it may impact Americans. While this situation poses a very serious public health threat, CDC believes that the immediate risk to the US public is low at this time but the situation continues to evolve rapidly
