A report from SunStar states that the Philippine Eagle Foundation (PEF), a non-government organization, said that they are aiming for the protection and conservation of the country’s national bird.

PEF further showed a majestic picture of the eagle that seemed to be looking with pride as it rests on the branch of the tree.

“Great news! Another juvenile Philippine eagle was discovered recently in the forests of Mt. Apo! The eagle, estimated to be around a year old, was found, thanks to the efforts of our hardworking forest guards,”

PEF reported that the eagle was found by the forest guards on January 8. This was followed by biologists visiting the area on January 15 to identify and take pitures of the eagle.

The organization announced last year that they found a new nesting territory in the highlands of Bukidnon. After a two-week expedition to confirm local reports, they found a, 11-month-old eaglet and its parent.

The eagle was considered an endangered species in 1965 and was declared “critically endangered” by the International Union for the Conservation of Nature.

As per the report, there is an imminent threat approaching this species of eagles due to human-inflicted danger.

It was recalled in 2015 that one of its kind named “Pamana” was shot inside Mt. Hamiguitan Range in San Isidro town, Davao Oriental. Necropsy reports show that Pamana could have suffered from “gunshot wound leading to possible trauma” after a puncture wound was found in her right chest.

Mindanao is considered to be the best home for eagles since the island is rendered typhoon-free, hence, allowing the eagles to survive.

The organization urged the public’s support to help save the lives of the eagle via donation platform on its website or its official bank account:

  • Philippine Eagle Conservation Program Foundation Inc.
    • BPI No. 9441-0113-31.
