According to PhilStar, the ex-lawmaker was identified as the province’s second district congressman Edgar Mendoza, as well as the two fatalities were then burned by the assailants in his car in Tiaong, Quezon.

According to the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG), Mendoza’s client Sherwin Sanchez, who is now serving a life sentence at the New Bilibid Prison, orchestrated the killing.

Sanchez allegedly sought the aid of his fellow prisoner, a kidnap convict named Arthur Fajardo who also happened to be a client of Mendoza, to contract hired killers.

CIDG director Brig. Gen. Joel Napoleon Coronel said with testimonies of witnesses and some of the suspects that Sanchez and Mendoza had disagreements on the amount Mendoza would collect as lawyer’s fee.

“Instead of paying millions of pesos, they just contracted killers,”

The other suspects who were arrested on Tuesday and presented to the media were identified as:

  • Maria Roselle, Fajardo’s wife
  • Madonna Palermo
  • Carlo Acuña
  • Erickson Balbastro
  • Kristine Fernandez, caretaker of Fajardo’s house

The said suspects are charged with murder before the Calamba City prosecutor’s office.

As per the report, the police are currently searching for the three other suspects, one of whom was identified as Rodel Mercado.

These allegedly conspired to assassinate Mendoza in return for ₱100,000 but ended up only having ₱10,000.

Coronel added that the two other fatalities were Mendoza’s driver and bodyguard Ruel Ruiz and Nicanor Mendoza, respectively.
