Theme Park In China Slammed For Bungee Jumping Pig With Cape
BUNGEE JUMPING PIG – A theme park in China was slammed for its viral video of a bungee jumping pig with cape which was then taken to the slaughterhouse.
According to GMA’s Balitambayan, in the video, it is shown that the pig was wearing a cape and is wrapped in a bungee cord as it was about to be thrown in a 200-feet tower.
It can be heard that the pig was screaming as it was in the air while the theme park music is playing.
This gained negative responses from netizens around the world who said that what they’re doing is animal cruelty.
A staff from the theme park explained that this is a promotion for the upcoming lunar new year, celebrating the end of the year of the pig and the beginning of the year of the rat.
The theme park eventually apologized for the stunt and promised not to do it again.
As per the report, this also gained negative comments from the Philippine Animal Welfare Society or PAWS. Anna Cabrera, executive director of PAWS said that what they did was not funny.
“Nakaka-shock siya dahil yung kita mo yung terror ng pig. Yung iba siguro they might find it funny because may sick sense of entertainment sila. Pero we have to find other ways of entertaining ourselves without causing pain or suffering to animals,”
She added that to slaughter and eat the pig in the end is not a valid reason to mentally torture the pig.
PAWS eventually urged the public that although there are traditions like chasing piglets or racing with carabaos, the public must be human no matter which animal or whatever the circumstances.
