Health Officials Confirmed First Case Of China Coronavirus In US
CHINA CORONAVIRUS CONFIRMED IN US – The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention announced that they have confirmed their first case of the mysterious coronavirus from China.
Information regarding the patient was yet to be disclosed. However, he is quarantined at Providence Regional Medical Center in Everett Washington.
Based on a report from CNN, the man was in his 30s and resides in Snohomish County, Washington. The patient arrived at Seattle-Tacoma International airport on the 15th of January, before screening for the virus began.
He sought medical aid on January 19. As per the report, the CDC and Washington state are now tracing those individuals who came in contact with the man to see if he had spread the disease to someone else.
However, John Wiesman, secretary of health for the state of Washington assured the public that the risk of the virus spreading was low.
The patient became ill four days after landing in the US and sought care. Based on the travel history and symptoms of the patients, doctors suspected him to have the Wuhan coronavirus.
They sent specimens to the CDC in Atlanta. There, they confirmed that the man was positive for the virus.
Following this, the patient was said to be doing well but is still being quarantined due to extreme caution.
In lieu of this, passengers coming from Wuhan in indirect or direct flights would only be allowed to land at one of five US airports doing health screenings.
The screenings include a temperature check and observation of symptoms like trouble breathing or coughing.
In addition, the CDC raised travel notice for Wuhan from level 1 to level 2 of three possible levels. With this, the CDC urged travelers to practice “enhanced precautions”.
