Former Barangay Offical Dead In Basketball Court, Quezon City
QUEZON CITY – A former barangay official was shot to death in a basketball court in Project 7, Quezon City.
According to a report from ABS-CBN’s Umagang Kay Ganda news, the victim, identified as Jeffrey Villanueva, has finished playing basketball at a court in Project 7 at about 9 PM on Monday.
As he sat down on the bleachers, an unidentified man approached Villanueva and shot him. The victim was dead on the spot.
Police Lieutenant Colonel Rodrigo Soriano, Chief of Masambong Police Station, said that Villanueva was about to play basketball when the assailant shot him several times.
“They’re about to play basketball dito sa barangay veterans nang biglang pumasok itong assailant at binaril siya. Nag fire siya several shots at tinamman niya itong biktima natin sa iba’t ibang parte ng kanyang katawan”
The suspect then abruptly fled away, while the man beside the victim was taken to the hospital due to the injuries he recieved from the incident.
As per the report, statements from the witnesses says that Villanueva often goes to the court, which the suspect took advantage of and did the crime. The motive of the crime is yet unknown but investigations deduced that it might be inovlved with politics.
Soriano reiterated what Villanueva’s family said that he was a former barangay officer and active in fighting against drugs at that time.
The police added that motive of the crime can also be involved with business since Villanueva, a businessman, was a victim of an investment scam.
