Lea Salonga showed her support to ABS-CBN amid the shutdown threat

Singer-actress Lea Salonga signed an online petition for #NoToABSCBNShutdown as her show of support to the Kapamilya network.

The National Union of Journalists of the Philippines (NUJP) initiated this campaign las January 17. Based on the report from PEP, this petition is directed to the House of Representatives.

It can be recalled that the issue of the franchise renewal of the Kapamilya network created a loud noise when President Rodrigo Duterte released a statement against it. From that on, several stars under the management of ABS-CBN have plead to the Chief Executive to reconsider.

Regarding this issue, Lea also showed her support to the Kapamilya network. Through her Twitter account, the Broadway star shared the link of the campaign posted on the site of Change.org. Her captions showed why she signed the petition.

Yes, I have personal and professional reasons for this one. Not gonna lie,” the singer-actress said.

This post of Lea Salonga garnered various reactions from netizens. Some of them commended the Broadway star for standing up for her network and some even cited that she is the one who did it first.

On the other hand, there was a who asked why those big names in the Kapamilya network has not done what she did. It is also inevitable that some netizens contradicted what she said. Lea did not reply to the comments.

Based on the report, as of Monday afternoon, the petition for #NoToABSCBNShutdown already has 57,000 signatures. That number includes the brother of Lea, Gerard Salonga.
