Bustos Town, Bulacan Aims For Guinness Record For “Biggest Cookie Jar”

BUSTOS TOWN – The municipality of Bustos in Bulacan is aiming for the Guinness World Record for the “biggest cookie jar”.

According to Inquirer, the cookie jar is said to house at about 2,500 pieces of the town’s famous “minasa” cookies. the preparation began on Saturday as it celebrated its Minasa Festival.

Minasa cookies are one of the popular sweets in Bulacan which is made from arrow root (“sago”) cassava flour, fresh coconut milk, sugar and egg. The term “minasa” refers to the kneading motion used to make the dough.

Town mayor Francis Juan said that the town government had tapped local bakers to make to cookies within 34 days.

“These minasa cookies (each measuring 17 inches by 11 inches) will be placed inside a cookie jar that is 2 meters high and 3 m wide,”

Juan added that the finished product will be presented to the Guinness World Records’ official adjudicator on February 21.

Regular minasa biscuits are packeged in small and round transparent plastic jars.

As per the report, the town’s tourism officer Wilson Bonifacio, said that the cookies were made in the town by the rich Bulakenyos as a favorite snack that is served to guests during the Spanish era.

Overtime, these have become a popular homecoming gift that can be bought in the province.

Bulacan provincial tourism officer Eliseo Dela Cruz said that the shelf life of the cookies allowed Bulaqueños to take these abroad as pasalubong for their families.
