Taal Volcano Calm In Picture Taken Early Friday Morning

TAAL VOLCANO – The Taal Volcano, which is still under Alert Level 4 seems calm in a photo taken early Friday morning (January 17).

PHIVOLCS (Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology) said that the volcano is currently in its lull moments.

Ma. Antonia Bornas, chief of PHIVOLCS Volcano Monitoring and Eruption Prediction Division said that the volcano’s activity could have decreased and if the alert level can be lowered if there is a lull for a long period.

However, the volcano still remains under Alert Level 4. This will still mean that hazardous explosive eruption might occur within hours or days.

At the same time the amount of sulfur dioxide emitted by the volcano increased as it is now at 4,186 tons per day. This indicates the magma’s movement. This is way higher than the recorded average of 1,686 tons per day on January 14 (Tuesday).

GMA News’ Super Radyo dzBB recently posted a photo of the volcano on Twitter. The photo was taken by dzBB’s Radio Correspondent Allan Gatus.

The caption states that after days of tremendous volcanic activity, the volcano seems cam on early Friday morning.

“Matapos ang ilang araw na maligalig na aktibidad, animo’y nahihimbing ang Taal Volcano ngayong madaling araw. “
