Phivolcs Denies Lack Of Info On Taal Monitoring & Says It’s Open To A House Investigation

PHIVOLCS OPEN TO HOUSE INVESTIGATION – The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology said that they were open to a house probe into its monitoring of Taal Volcano.

Recently, Cavite 4th District Rep. Elpidio Barzaga Jr. urged lawmakers to hold an investigation into Philvolcs monitoring of Taal.

He claimed that due to “lack of information”, the agency endangered the lives of residents following the spewing of giant ash clouds on Sunday.

In lieu of this, Phivolcs Director Renato Solidum said that it’s normal for the lawmakers to that they want to investigate. However, he emphasized that they coordinated with Batangas long ago.

According to a report from ABS-CBN, Philvocs released daily advisories since March 2019 after placing Taal under alert level 2.

The agency added that he urged education officials to relocate students from areas near the Taal Volcano as early as November of last year.

Following Taal Volcano’s eruption, the government declared Taal Island as “No Man’s Land”. Delfin Lorenzana, Department of National Defense Secretary, disclosed that President Rodrigo Duterte approved the recommendation to ban people from living on the island.

“Pagka babalik yung tao dun, if there will be another explosion or violent, I think all people will perish on the island,”
