The detainees escaped on Monday, January 6. With this, Bacolod City Police Station 3 chief Major Ruel Culanag was given an ultimatum of two weeks to recapture the escapees.

According to a report from Sunstar, Colonel Henry Biñas, the director of Bacolod City Police Office (BCPO), Culanag was directed to re-capture the detainees within two weeks.

He added that while the investigation is going on, the recapture of the detainees was under his responsibility. “It’s under his command of responsibility so he should lead the operation to recapture the suspects“, said Binas.

As per the report, one of the escaped detainees was identified as Ely Lorence Sazon. He voluntarily surrendered at Police Station 3 at about 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday.

Those still at large were Sunny Capa and Michael Penoso, 25, of Barangay 2. Both were faced with charges for violation of illegal drugs.

The other escapee was known as Jeffery Elangos, 38, from Barangay Bango. He was faced with child abuse charges.

Based on a statement from Lieutenant Colonel Ariel Pico, the spokesperson of BCPO, a concerned resident saw the escapees walking behind the custodial facility at around 1:00 a.m.

In addition to this, Biñas said the CCTV footage revealed that both the jailer and the desk officer were not around when the detainees sawed their way through the one-inch iron bars.

Binñas urged the escaped detainees to surrender voluntarily to avoid any unnecessary incidents.
