Police Officer Impostor Extorting Money From Vendors Caught In Bukidnon
BUKIDNON – A man who impersonated a police officer was recently arrested by the police in an operation in Baungon, Bukidnon.
According to SunStar, the man posed as a police officer in order to extort money from market vendors at the fish landing area in Barangay Bulua, Cagayan de Oro City.
The suspect was identified as Glenn Calang, aged 35 years and a resident of Barangay Bayabas, Cagayan de Oro City. Calang is a notorious police impersonator in the city and nearby municipalities.
His face went viral online after a netizen posted a CCTV footage showing him allegedly extorting money and threatening vendors with a gun at the fish landing area and vegetable section of Westbound Terminal, Barangay Bulua on New Year.
Cagayan de Oro Chamber of Commerce president and head of the Cagayan de Oro Fish Wholesalers Association Irene Floro urged the public to identify the impostor who keeps extorting money from vendors. The post gained at about 1K reactions and 4K shares.
Based on the report, he was finally arrested after a joint operation by the Regional Intelligence Division, the different units of the Cagayan de Oro City Police Office (COCPO) and Baungon town police.
Police Major Ivan Viñas, COCPO said that Calang had previous cases like possession of illegal drugs and robbery extortion among others.
He will be charged with extortion and usurpation of authority for impersonating a police officer.
