According to the National Historical Commission of the Philippines (NHCP), Bretman violated Republic Act No. 8491 or the “Flag Law”. In the video, Bretman was lip-synching and twerking to “Lupang Hinirang” and was then re-uploaded to various social media platforms.

The notice dated January 2, 2020, signed by Carminda Arevalo, officer-in-charge of NHCP’s Office of the Executive Director indicated, “When the National Anthem is played… as a sign of respect, all persons shall stand at the attention… shall execute a salute by placing their right palms over their chests… [and that] the National Anthem shall not be played or sung for mere recreation, amusement, or entertainment…”

It can be played in occasions such as international competitions where the Philippines is the host and in national and local competitions or events.

According to a post, the video was accordingly made three months ago and the famous personality has deleted it immediately and apologized for it as well, as it was such a very disrespectful act considering that he has a Filipino blood.

In a Twitter post following the criticisms about his old video, Bretman said, “Thank you so much for understanding, I can promise you it will never happen again, I take full responsibility and I truly am so sorry.”
