According to SunStar, the Zamboanga City Fire District (ZCFD) of the BFP reported that the fire broke out at about 7:20 AM, Thursday in Tindalo Elementary School, which is at Vitali Village, which is east of the said city.

Senior Inspector Douglas Zabala, deputy city fire marshal, states that they strongly deduced, with the testimony of a witness, that the school building was set ablaze intentionally.

Zabala further said that this could have not been caused by faulty electrical wiring since the public school has no electricity.

A witness said that the fire started from the ceiling of a two-classroom building, adding that he used coconut leaves to set the structure ablaze.

As per the report, Zabala said that the said building contained the Grade 5 classroom and the office of the head teacher, adding that the estimated worth of properties damaged is about ₱500,000. At 8:30 AM, the fire was put out.

Further investigation was required to unmask the arsonist behind the incident.
