DOJ Reminds Public To Write “2020” in Full To Avoid Scam

Public Encouraged by DOJ To Write “2020” in Full

DOJ – The Department of Justice is reminding the public to write the year “2020” in full to avoid getting scammed.

Undeniably, in filling in documents and other written information, some of us are used to abbreviating the date or writing it in shortcut form. It comes natural for most people.

Let us take for example the date September 18, 2019. Instead of writing “September 18, 2019”, we would write “09-18-19”.

However, for this year 2020, abbreviating the date may not be a wise decision to make according to the Department of Justice. It can lead to situations you may not want to get into.

Based on a report on ABS-CBN News, the DOJ expressed a reminder to the public to write the year “2020” in full to avoid scam. If you will write it in shortcut form, it can be altered.

According to Justice Undersecretary Markk Perete, writing “20” only instead of “2020” may lead to either pulling the date or advancing it. It can be altered to “2019” or “2021” which may be a disadvantage to one party.

Based on the report, with regards to the deed of sale in selling properties, writing the date incompletely can lead to the avoidance of paying for the right tax or capital gains. The Undersecretary also reminded to be careful in writing the date in filing cases as it is crucial over accusations.

The said reminder is not written under the law. On the other side, a little effort of writing the date in full can do a lot for the safety and security of certain documents.
