Transport Group Pushes For P11 Minimum Jeepney Fare
P11 MINIMUM JEEPNEY FARE – Transport groups will push for a price hike of P11 from the P9 minimum fare for public jeepneys by January 2020.

Because of the tax reform law, the price per liter of oil would increase by P1.50 per liter starting from January 1. According to Pasang Masda president Obet Martin, the price hike is far too heavy for jeepney drivers.
He added that jeepney drivers right now would earn around P400 to P600 for a 14 to 16-hour workload. However, he said that they would look into the effects of the price hikes.
He added that their group wanted empathy from the commuters because of the hard times’ jeepney drivers face daily. During an interview with DZMM he was asked if the price hike could be delayed.
But, Martin stated that by January, they would definitely file a petition for the price hike. He explained that the prices have now been much too heavy for the drivers.
Following the interview with Martin, another transport leader was asked about the price hike. According to Fejodap president Zeny Maranan, they have already talked with Masda about the price hike.
She added that they would also talk to other transport leaders so that before they filed a petition, they would have consolidated the other groups.
In addition to this, Maranan emphasized that she didn’t want a price hike for the commuters. However, the additional excise tax has forced them to increase the price.
She said that if the price of oil increases to P44 they are sure that the fare prices would increase to P11. But, if it increases to P49, she said that it could increase to P12 instead.
She wanted to highlight that just as long as the jeepney drivers can get a little extra to take home to their families, then that would be enough.
