Christmas Storm Ursula Enters PH, Brings Rains Days Before Christmas
CHRISTMAS STOR URSULA – Tropical storm Ursula, or internationally known as, “Phanfone” has breached the Philippine Area of Responsibility on Monday.
Ursula was detected about 1,000 kilometers east of Hinatuan, Surigao Del Sur at 5:00 am. The storms brought along sustained winds of 65 kilometers/hour and 80kph gusts.
With the entry of the storm in the country, this would be the 21st storm that hit the Philippines this year. According to an article from ABS-CBN, the storm would bring moderate-heavy rains over the following areas:
- Dinagat Islands
- Siargao and Bucas Grande Islands
- Eastern Visayas
- Sorsogon
- Masbate
- Romblon
- Aklan
- Antique
- Capiz
- Iloilo
- Guimaras
- and the northern portions of Cebu and Negros Occidental.
Meanwhile, light to moderate with the occasional heavy downpour is expected over Quezon and the rest of Visayas, Bicol, and Surigao del Norte.
Some of the areas in Mindanao included the recently quake-hit Davao del Sur, which suffered a massive magnitude-6.9 earthquake last December 15. The quakes took at least 13 lives and damaged some 25,000 homes.
As per the report, Ursula is forecasted to reach Central Visayas on Christmas Day, Wednesday. Afterward, it would intensify into a severe tropical storm before reaching landfall.
