US President Donald Trump Signed Into Law 2020 US Budget Including Ban of PH Officials Responsible for De Lima’s Imprisonment
US President Donald Trump has already signed into law the 2020 US budget including the ban of officials who jailed former Senator Leila De Lima.
The United States’ lawmakers are already taking action to bestow penalties against Philippine officials who were involved in the detention of former Senator Leila De Lima. The officials were linked to the alleged human rights violations.
The Senators proposed the travel restriction and financial sanctions on Filipino officials who have been involved in extrajudicial killings and De Lima’s imprisonment. The sanction was included in the US government’s proposed budget for 2020.
De Lima also mentioned the names of the personalities behind her arrest and detention two years ago. The former lawmaker named some of them as Mocha Uson, Sass Roganda Sasot, and RJ Nieto.
The US is condemning De Lima’s imprisonment and also denounced the detention of political leaders and other human rights defenders, which prompted the foreign lawmakers to create the resolution.
The US visas of the affected officials will be denied while their bank accounts and assets in America will be frozen if the sanctions are imposed.
