Be aware of your food intake during Christmas parties – DOH
The Department of Health (DOH) warned the public to be aware of the food intake during Christmas parties this holiday season.
This time of the year, parties and get-togethers between friends, families, and workmates become more frequent than usual. During these parties, one of the most important factors is food or “handaan”. In line with the food at parties and get-togethers, the health department is giving this advice to everyone.
Health spokesperson Dr. Eric Domingo said that people should be slow it down when eating during parties this holiday season including the coming new year. He added that this season, it is expected that more people will consult the doctor due to diabetes and high blood pressure, according to the report from Pilipino Star Ngayon.
Domingo also said that the public should avoid overeating in order to maintain good health despite many parties are being held. He also reminded Pinoys to eat more vegetables rather than foods that are rich in carbohydrates.
When it comes to lechon or roasted pig, a common dish in Pinoy parties, the DOH spokesperson said that one to two slices (same size of a regular matchbox) would be enough. Although some people take maintenance drugs, this should not be a reason for overeating, according to Domingo.
Desserts should not be eaten as desserts, the Health spokesperson stated. He also said that after the holiday season, people should go back to a balanced diet. Based on the report, once a person is already feeling ill, consulting a doctor is recommended.
