Duterte Drug War Documentary Part Of Shortlist For Oscars Award
DRUG WAR DOCUMENTARY – The drug war of President Rodrigo Duterte has been observed by a lot of international bodies.
Just this year, Duterte’s drug campaign got a silver screen adaptation called “On the President’s Order“. It was a gripping visual window into the Philippine’s war on drugs.
Award-winning filmmakers James Jones and Oliver Sarbil have collaborated to create the film. They dubbed their movie as a “cinematic investigation” on the bloody drug war in the Philippines.
Now, National Geographic made their own documentary about the drug war titled, “The Nightcrawlers”. According to an article from ABS-CBN, the film tried to shed light on the President’s deadly crusade.
It followed a group of daring photojournalists that are risking their lives to expose the true cost of the war on drugs. Its synopsis read:
With unprecedented access, The Nightcrawlers is an unflinching exposé of Philippines President Duterte’s war on drugs, in which some claim over 20,000 people have been killed.

The documentary had also been shortlisted in the documentary subject category for the Oscars. Along side “The Nightcrawlers”, documentaries like “After Maria, Fire in Paradise, St. Louis Superman, and Stay Close” are also included in the list.
Journalists featured in the documentary included veteran photojournalist Raffy Lerma and Patricia Evangelista. The film was created by award-winning producer Joanna Natasegara and directed by Alexander Mora.
The documentary film on the drug war can be streamed on the Nat Geo TV App. Along with this, the 92nd Academy Awards will be revealed on January 13, 2020.
