Duterte Anti-Drug Campaign Gets Film Adaptation

RODRIGO DUTERTE – President Rodrigo Duterte and his anti-drug campaign is made into a documentary film.

Award-winning filmmakers James Jones and Oliver Sarbil have collaborated to create the film. They dubbed their movie as a “cinematic investigation” on the bloody drug war in the Philippines.

The film is entitled “On The President’s Orders”. According to the producers, the film would be critical, on the ground perspective at Duterte’s war on drugs.

The story is told with unparalleled access to police officers involved in the killings. It also included families of drug users as well as others connected to the drug war.

The docufilm will debut at New York’s Cinema Village on October 4 of this year. It would also show in Laemmle Theaters in Los Angels on October 18.

On The President’s Order will also air nationwide in the US via PBS Broadcast in October. There will also be a special press preview on September 24 in Los Angeles.

According to ABS-CBN, the film by Jones and Sarbil was also included in various film festivals:

  • 2019 Sheffield DocFest in United Kingdom
  • 2019 HotDocs Film Festival in Toronto, Canada
  • 2019 Human Rights Watch Film Festival in New York
  • 2019 CPH:DOX in Copenhagen, Denmark

On The President’s Order has been described by Variety as “a wholly cinematic sensory experience”. Film Inquiry had also said that the documentary film was a “disturbing observational documentary”.

They added that it was the documentary needed about the Philippines’ drug war. They also stated that it was made with astonishing access and finesse.

The producers of the film, Jones and Sarbil, have been producing multi-award winning documentaries. These films focused mostly on critical issues all over the word.
