What Is The Philippine Area Of Responsibility? (Answer)
PHILIPPINE AREA OF RESPONSIBILITY – In this topic, we will now know about the Philippine Area of Responsibility or PAR.
A PAR is an area in the Northwestern Pacific where the state weather bureau PAGASA or the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration, observes weather occurrences.
This is often observed whenever a weather disturbance, specifically in the case of tropical cyclones, enter this area and eventually be given locally-specific names.
By the time this article was written, the most recent storm to enter this area is called Tisoy, who was internationally called Kammuri, the 20th and the most strongest storm to enter the area in the year 2019.
PAR is surrounded by the following six points:
- 25°N 120°E
- 25°N 135°E
- 5°N 135°E
- 5°N 115°E
- 15°N 115°E
- 21°N 120°E
The area covers most of the nation’s land mass, except the southernmost area of Tawi-Tawi, and some of Spratly’s islands.
It also covers most of Palau, most of Taiwan, parts of the Malaysian state of Sabah and the Okinawan Prefecture of Japan.
Aside from this area, PAGASA also have two other areas of responsibilities in monitoring cyclones:
- Tropical Cyclone Advisory Domain (TCAD)
- Tropical Cyclone Information Domain (TCID).
