How The 6.9 Magnitude Earthquake In Davao Del Sur Is Connected To Oct. Tremors
6.9 MAGNITUDE EARTHQUAKE – On Sunday, 2:11 p.m., Davao del Sur was hit with a massive 6.9 magnitude earthquake.

In the previous months, areas in Mindanao have been hit by a series of earthquakes. But, are they somehow connected to each other, causing a chain of tremors?
Although reports have already identified that the quakes were caused by a different fault line, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) believes it could be linked to the Cotabato Fault System.
This was the same fault that was responsible for the series of earthquakes in October. The quakes did a lot of damage and left thousands homeless.
Following this, the recent quake in Davao del Sur also dealt with devastating damage to the residents. It was felt throughout the province and nearby towns like Digos, Kidapawan, General Santos, and Sultan Kudarat.
According to a report from ABS-CBN, there were already 4 people killed and dozens were injured. Several buildings were also destroyed.
In lieu of this, Ishmael Narag, officer-in-charge of Philvocs’ observation and earthquake prediction said that the recent quake was closer to the Tangbulan fault, but it was also near the Cotabato fault system.
“It appears whatever forces acting on these faults is also the same with the one in Tangbulan fault said Narag. Here is their explanation.
He said that the 69.2 km Tanbbulan fault was initially found separate from the Makilala-Malungon fault and others that have been classified under the Cotabato Fault System. Here is a graphical representation from ABS-CBN.

As of the moment, PHILVOCS said that they still need further assessments before they could confirm their assumption. But, he emphasized that he believes this was a high possibility.
