According to ABS-CBN, the reason why the conglomerate aimed to build the overhead expressway along the capital’s main thoroughfare is in order to help ease traffic congestion in the said road.

The corporation further said in the stock exchange that its proposal was already sent to the Department of Transportation (DOTr) for its consideration.

It further added that it could spent at about $3 billion or ₱151.8 billion for the toll road, which could stretch from Macapagal Avenue in the south up to Balintawak or Samson road in the north.

As per the report, it also proposed to construct a new airport in Bulacan in order to help reduce traffic congestion at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport. The conglomerate is also currently building the MRT-7, which will connect the capital’s northern suburbs to Bulacan province.

Earlier this month, San Miguel restored normal traffic at the South Luzon Expressway (SLEx). The project began late, which worsened road traffic on that area.

The government is reconsidering the penalties they will impose on SMC for the intense traffic that occured after theit Skyway extension project began in late September.
