49 Bago City Students Sent To Hospital After Eating Christmas Party Spaghetti

CHRISTMAS PARTY SPAGHETTI – One of the most beloved traditions and holidays of the Filipino people is Christmas, and of course, Christmas parties.

People from all walks of life in the country have their very own party to celebrate the yule-tide season. You could find these parties everywhere, from the office to schools.

And of course, these parties wouldn’t be complete without the food. Sadly, for the students at Ma-ao Elementary school in Bago City, Negros Occidental, their Christmas party food wasn’t in the best condition.

According to a report from ABS-CBN, 49 students in the first grade were sent to the hospital after showing symptoms of food poisoning yesterday Morning. Students were vomiting, having stomach pains, and feeling nausea.

With this, the local Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office of Bago City said that the culprit could possibly be the spaghetti that the students ate. In addition, the city health office is now investigating the party’s caterer.

The good news is, more than half of the students were already on the clear with regards to their symptoms. However, there were still 20 students being monitored in the Bago City Hospital.

Many people might not know this, but common Filipino dishes are oftentimes at risk of food poisoning. These include food like rice and pasta.

Pasta sauce can become contaminated during the manufacturing process or during preparation before. It could also be contaminated from the utensils or cookware.

Also, if you refrigerate and re-heat your pasta multiple times, it could be more susceptible to developing food poisoning.

According to an article from Livestrong, Gastroenteritis that develops after eating pasta sauce is most likely caused by food poisoning.

When you finish your pasta sauce that’s contaminated with an infectious organism, the lining of your stomach and intestines will become infected and inflamed.
