Ceres Bus Tipped Over A Cliff In Catmon, Cebu, 20 Passengers Injured

CERES BUS – A Ceres bus tipped over a cliff in Barangay Panalipan in the taown of Catmon, Cebu, resulting to 20 passengers injured.

According to SunStar, the driver lost control of the steering, which caused the bus to plunge off a cliff on Sunday morning (December 8).

Before the incident, the bus departed the town of Tabogon, carrying at about 25 passengers. It was heading to the Cebu North Bus Terminal in Mandaue City.

According to Police Corporal Virgil Ortiz, a traffic investigator, reported that the police station received the call in regards to the incident at about 7:55 AM.

Upon arriving on the area, along with other police officers, Ortiz found the bus below the cliff and passengers cried for help.

The driver, identified as 36-year-old Iglecerio Cano-is Landero Jr. from Barangay Ipil, Carmen, said that the steering wheel malfunctioned while driving the national highway in Panalipan.

Landero added that he stepped on the brake but could no longer control the bus. The vehicle crashed through the concrete barrier, fell into a cliff, and hit a coconut tree and two wooden boats along the way.

Based on the report, the injured passengers suffered minor injuries and were brought to a nearby hospital in the town of Sogod.

Landero denied that he fell asleep but admitted that it was his first time driving a bus. He was detained at the Catmon Police Station pending the filing of charges against him
