Here is the symbolism of the “Reflection” gown of Catriona Gray in Miss Universe 2019
Miss Universe 2018 Catriona Gray wore another head-turner gown called “Reflection” during the Miss Universe 2019 coronation night.
Catriona is known to incorporate the culture and tradition of the Philippines in almost every aspect of being a beauty queen. She was known for her ear cuff that symbolizes the three stars and a sun in the Philippine flag.
Her gown during the preliminary competition last year showed the Ibong Adarna while her Mayon gown for the finals showcased the perfect cone-shaped Mayon Volcano in Albay where her mother came from.
As her reign came to an end and she has to pass the crown to the next Miss Universe, Catriona Gray once again carried with confidence the culture and tradition of her country. She wore the “Reflection” gown made by talented designer Mak Tumang who also did her two famous gowns.
According to the Instagram post of Mak Tumang, the bright blue gown of the Filipina beauty queen symbolizes “Philippine Eagle mirrors itself on the SEA”.
“The creation’s inspiration stems from the vision of the Philippine Eagle flying over the flawless turquoise seas embracing our archipelago,” the designer said. He also explained the ability of the Philippine eagle to soar up the clouds but still, it can “manage to look down until the point of reflecting itself on the shiny waters.”
This stands for might and humility. “As a nation, we are to have a steadfast spirit yet we also take a moment to journey within ourselves,” he added. With this, the traits of Filipinos are being highlighted – being steadfast and ability to take a moment to journey within one’s self.
“‘Silay’; to mirror, ‘Pagbubulay’; to introspect – the Filipino nation’s moment of reflection!” the post stated.
