In the Philippines, one of the groups who got their own beliefs and may not share the same ground with the government in most things is the New People’s Army. More commonly called as NPA, it is an arm of the Communist Party of the Philippines.

Recently, an encounter between suspected members of the NPA and the joint forces of the police authorities and the military took place. It happened in Antipolo City, Rizal.

Based on a recent report on ABS-CBN News, a warrant of arrest was issued against Armando Lazarte alyas Pat Roman. However, according to Calabarzon Police Regional Director Brigadier General Vicente Danao, the suspected NPA commander resisted arrest and was shot.

Citing the investigation, Lazarte is accused of the fire that caught the equipment of Kaliwa Dam project in Infanta, Quezon. Based on the report, he’s also allegedly involved in an ambush against the police authorities in Baras and Antipolo last year.
