Duterte Certain That Cayetano Is Not Involved In Corruption In SEA Games
DUTERTE – The 2019 South East Asian Games has been faced with controversies and issues.
With this in mind, President Rodrigo Duterte stated that House Speaker Alan Peter Cayetano needs to answer to those issues. However, he emphasized that he is not involved in corruption.
Cayetano heads the Philippine South East Asian Games Organizing Committee (PHISGOC). This group has received criticism for the poor handling of the event.
It was faced with transportation issues, accommodation issues, and issues with food. This led Duterte to appeal to the public to refrain from creating a firestorm over the event.

Based on an article from ABS-CBN, he added that with regard to the allegations of corruption and mishandling of the event, he would open an investigation.
The President said the military could have been more equipped to handle the preparations for the Games when it came to logistics. He also clarified that he was not investigating Cayetano.
Duterte added that he was trying to figure out how the budget for the SEA Games was utilized. “I’m just trying to find out because the money might not have been properly disbursed“, he stated.
During an interview with media reporters, Cayetano said that the problems faced by the organizers was due to budget delays.
However, the Presidente said that as soon as the SEA Games are done, he would ask retired government auditors and prosecutors to lead the investigations.
