Its government is a Unitary presidential Islamic republic currently governed by President Ashraf Ghani.
The name of the country is as old as its derived word Afghan, which is a reference to the member of the ethnic group Pashtuns.The suffix “-stan” is a Persian term for “place of”, hence, it is called the “land of the Afghans”, “place of the Afghans”; or historically, “land of the Pashtuns”.
