Recently, the Philippines had its first case of vaping related lung injury. She was a 16-year-old teen from Central Visayas.

With this development, her pulmonologist said that he was in continuous communication with the DOH for updates on her condition.

Following this, the President had ordered the ban of vaping in public places. Along with this, he also banned the importation of e-cigarettes and vaping devices in the Philippines.

His announcement made waves, especially in social media. With this, he got a lot of criticism from many netizens comparing why tobacco is allowed but not vaping.

Duterte explained that he allows the manufacture and importation of tobacco because it is being taxed and regulated. Meanwhile, vapes and related devices are not.

We allow it, pinapayagan natin, and then we tax them“, said the President. He also added that vape products include nicotine and other unknown chemicals unregulated by the FDA.

Based on an article from ABS-CBN, Duterte said that there was already an executive order against smoking in public. He added that since vapes contained nicotine, it should be under the policy.

Manigarilyo ka, vaping, pareho rin nanigarilyo ka. Sabihin mo sa labas. E ngayon bawal manigarilyo, may batas na yan. Ang hinahabol ko ang nicotine. Anong illegal? G*go ka. P*tang nicotine yan

Kaya sabi ko sa pulis, hulihin ninyo, basta in public. E may nicotine eh. Parang sigarilyo. Edi bawal. Pati yung sa display, ipatanggal na ninyo. Hindi ako papayag
