Recently, the Philippines had its first case of vaping related lung injury. She was a 16-year-old teen from Central Visayas.

With this development, her pulmonologist said that he was in continuous communication with the DOH for updates on her condition.

Following the incident, the President had ordered the ban of vaping in public places. Along with this, he also banned the importation of e-cigarettes and vaping devices in the Philippines.

I will ban it. I will ban it, the use and importation“, said the President. Adding to this, he said that he wanted to ban vaping because it is toxic.

“Better stop it because I will order your arrest if you do it in a room. I am now ordering the law-enforcement agencies to arrest anybody vaping in public. That is like smoking”

President Rodrigo Duterte

According to the authorities, the man was arrested in Lucena City in Quezon province. The suspect was identified as Marq Joseph Bobis Victurcio.

Based on a report from GMA, the arrested man was 21-years-old. He was also found to be a resident of Barangay Gulang-gulang.

Victurcio’s Vape was then confiscated by the authorities to be disposed properly. However, they immediately released the suspect after filing blotter.

In other areas, the Police spokesman Police Brigadier General Bernard Banac reported that there were no cases of vape-related arrests.

The President made the order in an attempt to ensure the safety of public health. This was following global reports of a recently named vape-related injury called evali.

Evali is the new name given to individuals with vaping related lung injuries. It is short for e-cigarette or vaping, product use associated with lung injury.
