Recently, Robredo was named as the new co-chairperson of the committee on anti-illegal drugs. However, the PNP wants her out of their way when enforcing the law.

Based on an article from ABS-CBN, PNP Police Officer-in-Charge Lt. Gen. Archie Gamboa stated that the Vice President should focus on the advocacy and rehab units of her committee.

But, Gamboa- said Robredo should have a say on how law enforcement agencies implement relevant anti-drug policies. Much like how she suggested improvements to Oplan Tokhang during the last ICAD meeting.

He added that she should leave law enforcement to the relevant sectors like PNP and PDEA. However, Robredo’s camp said that her role as co-chair encompasses all anti-drug efforts.

Robredo’s Spokesperson Barry Gutierez stated that Gamboa should remember that the President assigned the VP to lead all efforts against drugs. He added that it would be better to address his concerns directly to Robredo rather than the media.

The Vice President had a closed-door meeting with anti-drug sectors. But, Robredo was given a list of only high-value drug targets and not an actual copy of the list.

The reason for this was because the list should be on a “need to know” basis. Gamboa added that it should only be given to those “capable” in law enforcement affairs.

Other members of the Inter-Agency Committee on Anti-Illegal Drugs (ICAD) had also stated that they felt uneasy working with Robredo. This was because it’s the first time the opposition was put in a flagship program.
