What Is Mayon Volcano? About The Volcano With An Almost Perfect Cone

Also known as Mayon, Mount Mayon, Magayon or Mount Magayon, is a stratovolcano that is situated in the province of Albay in the Bicol Region.

It is well known of its almost perfect cone due to its symmetrical conical shape, thus, it was declared as a national park way back in July 20, 1938. It is the first ever volcano to earn the title but it was reclassified int a Natural Park.

It is named after a legendary princess named Daragang Magayon and the volcano was said to be chosen as the home of a god of the Bicolanos named Gugurang, who chose the volcanoas the place of the fire of Ibalon.

The volcano has an elevation of about 2, 263 meters or 8, 081 feet; and has a prominence of about 2,447 meters or 8,028 feet.

It is the main landmark and the highest point of the Albay province, and furthermore, the entire Bicol region. It is bordered by the cities and town of Legazpi, Daraga, Camalig, Guinobatan, Ligao, Tabaco, Malilipot, and Santo Domingo.
