Crocodile Attacks 12-Year-Old Child In Palawan
PALAWAN – Parents of a 12-year-old child were thankful that their daughter survived an attack from a crocodile.
Reports said that the crocodile attacked her in a river in Barangay Poblacion 6 last Friday. The child was on her way home from the house of their relative alongside her brother.
It was around 6:00 p.m. when the incident happened. The siblings said that a tree fell down the river and served as their bridge across.
As they were crossing, they were both taken by surprise as the 12-year-old child was bitten by a crocodile. Her brother quickly came to the rescue.
In a report from ABS-CBN, the mother said that her brother was trying to pull her away from the crocodile. As they were thrashing, the siblings managed to run away.
Because of the tug-of-war between her brother and the crocodile, one of the animal’s teeth was left stuck in the leg of the victim. This resulted in a medical team needing to stitch up the wound.
According to the barangay officials, they always warned their residents about that area. They said that tanods routinely check the river.
Barangay head Rosnah Ami said that whenever the tanods are monitoring the river, people stop swimming. However, when they’re away, they jump right back in.
In the meantime, authorities have advised residents to stay clear of areas where there are reports of crocodiles. They said that if there’s water in the rivers, most likely there are still crocodiles.
Adding to this, there was also an incident where a fisherman got attacked by a crocodile in Bataraza. There was also a case where another fisherman was killed due to a crocodile attack in Palawan.
