Pixar Short Film Features Filipinos To Celebrate Children With Unique Gifts
PIXAR SHORT FILM – The latest Pixar short film features Filipinos and their culture for the first time in history.
October marked Filipino American History Month in the U.S. With this, Pixar made history as it featured Filipino characters in their new short film.
The latest addition to Pixar’s list of shorts is a film called “Float”. It’s about acceptance as a father finds out his adorable son was unlike any other kids.
The Pixar writer and story lead, Bobby Rubio is a Filipino American. He wanted to base the story on his personal life.
“It’s based on my own personal story of my son“, he said in an interview with Action News. “In the story, the father is dealing with a son that floats, which makes him different from other children“, he added.
Rubio said that the film is a celebration of children with unique gifts. Adding to this, he wanted to make a feature-based approach to make the characters look Filipino American.
“I know we don’t all look alike, but at the same time, I wanted traits that I had so that it at least felt authentic,” said Rubio. The characters were also animated versions of himself and his son.
The Pixar writer was proud of this historical event. At the special screening of the film, he got to see the reactions of the crowd.
He said that it was amazing to see the crowd react to the scenes he wanted them to react to. “It was amazing, and I totally loved it“, said Rubio.
