Apple Warns Older iPhone Users To Update iOS Or Lose Internet
APPLE – Some iPhone users face a serious problem this coming week if they don’t update their phone to the latest iOS version.
Apple gave a warning to old iPhone and iPad users to update their iOS software by Sunday. If they fail to do so, they won’t be able to connect to the internet.
iPhone products that date back to 2012 and earlier will need to update before midnight on November 3. Aside from web browsing, users won’t be able to access the App Store as well.
According to Apple, they are doing this to get accurate GPS location, iCloud, and email capabilities. This was due to their GPS time rollover issue.
They said that about every 19 years their GPS devices need to reset to accurately measure time and dates. This affects users who have an iPhone 5 or lower version.
Based on an article from CNN, your software number should be 10.3.4 or 9.3.6 depending on the device you own.

- Open the Settings app
- Tab General, then tap “About”
- Look for the number next to Software Version
Apple also said that if you fail to update your devices before Sunday, you’d have to back-up all your files. From that point on, over-the-air software updates and iCloud Backup would stop working.
The company has warned users of older devices way back in July that they had four months to update their software. In the iPhone 5, owners were getting pop-up notifications telling them “Action Required for iPhone 5”.
