Class Suspension Declared in These Areas for Tuesday (October 29)
WALANG PASOK – Several local government units have declared class suspension after a magnitude 6.4 earthquake struck Cotabato.
On Tuesday (October 29, 2019), the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) reported that a magnitude 6.4 earthquake hit a part of Cotabato around 9:04 am.
Phivolcs recorded the powerful tremor at 06.92 North, 125.05 East – 026 km North 73° East of Tulunan. The earthquake is tectonic in origin and has a depth of 008 kilometers according to the seismology agency.
The volcanology agency also warned the public to take precautionary measures because damages and aftershocks are expected. As of this writing, there is still not further updates regarding the incident.
Recently, Mayor Ronnel C. Rivera has declared the suspension of classes in all levels both public and private, schools, colleges, and universities throughout the General Santos City on Tuesday (October 29) due to the powerful quake.
The City Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office and other government agencies will also conduct inspections in school buildings and other establishments.
Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte also declared the cancellation of classes in the city due to the 6.8 magnitude earthquake, which happened at 9:13 this morning also.
