MARY JANE VELOSO – The Supreme Court allowed the Filipina worker who is detained abroad to testify against her recruiters.

Drugs were found in the luggage of the OFW. On her part, she claimed that she was only fooled by her recruiters – Cristina Sergio and Julius Lacanilao. According to her, she was convinced by the two(2) to fly abroad to work as a domestic worker.

Mary Jane also claimed that it was Cristina who gave her the ticket to fly to Indonesia. According to her, she was also the one who allegedly gave her the bag where drugs were kept.

Due to it, Mary Jane was imprisoned abroad. Unfortunately, she was also on the death row. In April 2015, it was supposedly her schedule but she was spared after Cristina and Julius surrendered to the authorities in the Philippines.

Recently, a spark of hope for the family and friends of Mary Jane Veloso crossed the surface. Based on a report on ABS-CBN News, the Supreme Court released a decision allowing the OFW to testify against her recruiters.

As to the Court, it is against the right of Mary Jane for due process if she will not be given the chance to serve as a witness against her recruiters. Her family is very happy over the decision.

“Napakasaya po naming pamilyang Veloso lalong-lalo na po yung dalawang anak niya. Noong malaman po nilang ganun, lumulundag po sa tuwa yung mga anak niya,” Celia Veloso, Mary Jane’s mother said based on the report.

As for the lawyer of Mary Jane, Attorney Edre Olalia, they believe that it can really help a lot if the Indonesian authorities can see that Mary Jane is just a victim in the case. They are hopeful that it can lead to the cancellation of the punishment against her.
