97 Mayors May Face Charges For Non-Compliance With DILG
ROAD CLEARING OPERATIONS – There are 97 Mayors who could face charges for underperformance or non-compliance with DILG’s road clearing operations.

There were over 6,800 roads nationwide that were reclaimed for private use. With this, the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) said LGUs got a passing grade of 80% in their road clearing operations.
However, Interior Secretary Eduardo Año state that there are 97 city and municipal mayors that could face the heat for underperforming. He said that these LGUs were given 5 days to explain their side.
If they do not comply with the order, their names would be taken up to the President. Afterward, Año said that a case will be filed against them before the Office of the Ombudsman.

He also added that he considered their clearing operations successful. President Duterte gave the directive to reclaim public roads.
So far, 75 percent of roads in their inventory was cleared. This was a great improvement from when they started 60 days ago, Año added,
“We have feedback from the people and community. Itong problema na ito for so many years napabayaan“, Año stated.
According to a report from Philstar, Año said that all LGUs in Metro Manila have passed their test. There were also over 600 roads cleared in various extents.
Here are DILG’s criteria for rating the LGUs:
- Approval of ordinances on road management
- Inventory and actual clearing of roads
- Measures for displaced vendors
The Interior secretary then stated that the real challenge now is to sustain the achievements made in the past 2 months. This responsibility is delegated to barangay officials.
The DILG has also stated that they would issue a memorandum that would help monitor the road clearance. They said they would issue a quarterly review of cleared roads.
