Darwin Dormitorio: Timeline Of His Suffering Inside PMA With Fellow Cadets

Darwin Dormitorio wrote his suffering in a journal.

DARWIN DORMITORIO – This is what happened to Philippine Military Academy freshman cadet Darwin Dormitorio before his worst blows on September 17.

A diary have been recovered from the possession of late PMA cadet Darwin Dormitorio which caused devastation to his family upon reading what he wrote on it. As much as anyone is probably aware of, he died due to maltreatment and beatings received from upper-class cadets.

Now, here’s a timeline of what really happened to the PMA freshman provided by the Baguio City police to on Monday, September 30 based on report from GMA:

AUGUST 19: Third-class cadets Felix Lumbag Jr. and Shalimar Imperial, with another cadet, John Vincent Manolo, made Dormitorio do exercises such as knuckles out, bridge under bunk, and pumping exercises. This is because he had already spent of his allowance which is considered an offense to his buddies. This also caused him to fall several times and lasted for more than 20 minutes.

AUGUST 20-27: Dormitorio got confined and admitted for eight (8) days in PMA Station Hospital (PMASH) and was diagnosed with “multiple soft tissue hematoma, abdomen and back: partial thickness burn-healed, left shoulder.” 

AUGUST 28: Cadet Imperial hit him in the face “causing his nose to bleed profusely.”

SEPTEMBER 6: Dormitorio was hospitalized again due to “respiratory tract infection; soft tissue contusion, chest area” while his roommates said that it is because of a toothache and a swollen jaw.

SEPTEMBER 14: “Imperial, Lumbag and Manalo maltreated 4CL Dormitorio by covering his face with a dress cap cover (thick plastic) with rubbing alcohol sprayed in it. Likewise, they tied his hands behind his nape and a soft boom (walis tambo) inserted on his arms and neck. While lying, they firmly held his upper body and legs to prevent him from moving,” states the police report. This shows that Dormitorio suffered suffocation after the perpetrators wrapped a thick plastic around his face.

SEPTEMBER 17:
– 4:30 a.m, Dormitorio participated in 40-minute Corps Duty Exercise
– 6:53 a.m., Cadet 1st Class Axl Rey Sanopao demanded the pair of boots he entrusted to Dormitorio which the 4CL apparently lost. Thus, he was given by Sanopao to Imperial for punishment
– Dormitorio was taken to a room where he was believed to be beaten by the two. He went out of the room “shivering and in pain.”
– A witness, a Cadet 1st Class saw him very weak and instructed to go to his squad leader Cadet Christian Zacarias’s room where he eventually fell asleep.
– 8:30 a.m., three witnesses with Zacarias entered the room. Zacarias inquired why he was lying in his bunk but Dormitorio was in so much pain that he wasn’t able to answer and could not even stand when Zacarias pulled him out of the bed. Holding his stomach as he fell to floor, Dormitorio received five kicks on the right side of his body from the squad leader cadet.
– 8:40 a.m., Zacarias instructed Echo Company Commander 1CL Lucas as Dormitorio needs immediate medical attention.
– 9:05 a.m., an ambulance came and at 9:15 a.m., Dormitorio was admitted at PMASH.
– Flor Apple Apostol diagnosed him of urinary tract infection and released from the hospital at 4:25 p.m.
– He was “weak, pale and ‘matamlay'” and at 6:20 p.m., his roommates saw him sleeping.
– 6:30 p.m., 3CL Rey David John Volante saw Dormitorio pulling off his pants down while sitting on the floor, unaware of his sickness, Volante slightly kicked him in the head to move faster.
– 7:40 p.m., Dormitorio went vomitting to restroom telling another witness that he was “nakatay” or maltreated by Lumbag and Imperial.
– 9:45 p.m., he received an instruction his squad leader 3CL Termil to change into a general athletic uniform which he obliged.
– 10:30 p.m., Sanopao saw Dormitorio and shown to 2nd Class and 3rd Class cadets about his improper uniform.
– 3CL Julius Carlo Tadena entered Room 209 at 10:40 p.m. and electrocuted Dormitorio on his private part.
– 11 p.m., Dormitorio complained of excruciating stomach pain

SEPTEMBER 18:
– 12:30 a.m., Dormitorio vomited again. Zacarias gave him medicine, toasted bread and water.
– 12:45 a.m., Lieutenant Quibilan visited them and ordered Zacarias to leave and he then came back at 1:00 a.m., with more food and water for Dormitorio.
– 1:05 a.m., Dormitorio vomited twice.
– 3 a.m., Dormitorio “was seen in a kneeling position with his head resting on the floor.”
– 3:20 a.m., Dormitorio was seen sitting on the floor with his back and his head seeking support from a study table.
– 3:40 a.m., Duty Sentinel 3CL Cadet came in the room and him and two witnesses found Dormitorio sitting on the floor still but motionless and “unresponsive, no pulse and was not breathing.”
– 3:45 a.m., other cadets check on Dormitorio and five minutes later, an ambulance arrived.
– 4 a.m., the ambulance was able to take Dormitorio to the hospital. The staff tried to revive him but he was unresponsive already with no heart rate, zero blood pressure, and zero respiratory rate. His eyes are not reacting and dilated and even given an immediate cardio-pulmonary resuscitative measure.
– But at 5:15 a.m., he was declared dead.
