A student named Ian Rosales Casocot shared a photo on twitter of an announcement made by the McDonald’s branch. It stated that students are requested not to study in their premises.

The announcement read:

To: OUR VALUED CUSTOMERS

WE ARE PLEASED TO REQUEST YOU NOT TO STUDY IN OUR PREMISES. THIS ESTABLISHMENT IS INTENDED FOR EVERYONE WHO LIKES TO DINE-IN AND ENJOY OUR SERVICES AND DELICIOUS FOODS THAT McDONALD’S CAN OFFER.

THANK YOU!

-MANAGEMENT-

Naturally, the tweet went viral, garnering mixed responses from netizens. Some agree with the management of McDonald’s, while others, especially students, were against it.

In the tweet, Casocot mentioned that it was the run-up to Finals week. This would mean that the amount of students looking for a place to study would see a massive increase.

He compared the McDo branch to a “whiny girl who goes to the beach and complains about the sand“. He gave emphasis that students are the only source of life in the early hours of 24/7 establishments.

Students have always flocked to fast food chain establishments such as McDonald’s to study. Some stay there for hours on end which could result to some customers not finding a spot to dine in.

This fact has caused mixed opinions from people online.

“We need libraries. Yun lang yun”

“The student population should boycott mcdo then lets see kung di sila abugon”
-@valvestil

“That’s fast food, bruh. Not a study area”
-@kennethdeleon

Then you know that these students try to adopt to the best of their capabilities and resources. If there are other AFFORDABLE, SAFE, & OPEN 24/7 PUBLIC AREAS, students will be there. Unfortunately, there is none”.

According to a report by KAMI, the McDonald’s branch has made an official response to Casocot’s tweet. They clarified that everybody is welcome in their establishment.
