Fires Hit 4 Cities In Cebu In Under 24 Hours

FIRES – Fires had struck Talisay, Cebu, Lapu-lapu and Mandaue causing P1.9 million worth of property damage.

Luckily, nobody was hurt during the fires. The first fire was at a butane refilling station in Sitio Dauis-Kimba, Barangay San Roque, Talisay City on September 24 past 12 p.m.

According to reports from Sunstar, the fire originated from a house that was converted into an illegal butane refilling station. There was a series of explosions heard throughout the community.

During the fire, there were several dangerous event that happened. As the establishment was ablaze, the LPG tankers inside flew out and destroyed three vehicle that were nearby.

Based on the testimonies from a nearby resident Alfredo Caballes, employees rushed outside the moment things were catching fire. He also added that he rushed outside his home thinking that there was a shootout and a bomb explosion.

He then stated that the canisters were the first to explode. This was then followed by the big LPG tanks, Caballes added.

According to the report by Sunstar, the establishment that caused the fire was owned by Chona Mercado. This individual reportedly rented the house back in 2018.

However, there was no clearance from the Bureau of Fire protection. Adding to this, there was also no business permit from the city.

Luckily, the fire did not reach other houses that were 50 meters away from the refilling station. Residents thought the the establishment was a tailoring shop, but then they saw the canisters and LPG tanks.

Earlier that day, past 8 a.m., a fire hit a two-story house in Sitio Cadulang, Barangay Marigondon, Lapu-Lapu City. The house was owned by Eleonor Berba.

Based on the reports, the fire, which started in the kitchen, was due to a faulty electrical connection. By the time that this happened, there was another two-story house that caught fire.

This time, it was in Baragay San Nicolas, Cebu City. Reports said that an unplugged ceiling fan may have caused the fire.

Lastly, past 5 p.m., on Monday, a fire started in a warehouse in Sitio Tambis, Barangay Casungtingan Mandaue City. Investigators stated the fire may have been set on purpose.
