Provinces Of Western Visayas | Regions Of The Philippines
PROVINCES OF WESTERN VISAYAS – In this topic, we will now discuss the six provinces of Western Visayas or Region VI.
Also known as Kabisay-an Nakatundan or Kanlurang Kabisayaan, it is one of the three main regions in Visayas, one of the main three island groups in the Philippines.
It has two highly urbanized cities: Iloilo City, its regional center and the capital of the Iloilo province, and Bacolod City, the capital of Negros Occidental and also known as the City of Smiles.
It is assigned as Region VI and has a population of more than 7 million people, as of 2015.
Provinces
Here are the following provinces:
- Aklan (Capital: Kalibo)
- This province is the northwest part and one of the provinces in the Island of Panay. It also includes the famous Boracay Island.
- Antique (Capital: San Jose de Buenavista)
- This is also one of the provinces in the Island of Panay and home if the Iraynun-Bukidnon who speaks the Kinaray-a language.
- Capiz (Capital: Roxas)
- Located at the northeastern part and one of the provinces in Panay Island. It is also famous for the Placuna placenta oyster.
- Guimaras (Capital: Jordan)
- Formerly known as Himal-us, this province is known as the Mango Capital of the Philippines because of its production of the sweetest mangoes in the world.
- Iloilo (Capital: Iloilo)
- One of the provinces in the Panay Island and home of the regional center of the same name.
- Negros Occidental (Capital: Bacolod)
- Also known as Nakatungdang Negros, it is the western half of the Negros Island and is famous for its production of sugarcane, thus, the title “Sugarbowl of the Philippines”.
