Over 300 Ex-RPA-ABB Rebels To Undergo Two-Month Military Training in Capiz
300 EX-RPA-ABB – More than 300 ex-RPA-ABB rebels will undergo military training in Capiz as part of the decommissioning process.
The Philippine military has been trying their best to defeat all the local communist in the country. The Communist Party of the Philippines-New People’s Army (CPP-NPA) is the most known rebels in the country.
In 2017, Philippine President Rodrigo Roa Duterte has officially proclaimed the group as a terrorist organization following the brutal attacks against the state. Last month, the president threatened to impose martial law in Negros due to the terror acts of the NPA.
Aside from the NPA, the rebel group Revolutionary Proletarian Army-Alex Boncayao Brigade (RPA-ABB) that previously attacked the government. They are a former armed wing of the NPA.
In 2000, the group signed a peace agreement with the Philippine government and separated from NPA in 1966. They denounced that the mission of the NPA’s leader Jose Maria Sison was violent.
Based on a report from SunStar, more than 300 ex-RPA-ABB rebels will undergo military training for two months as part of the decommissioning process. Their training at Camp Peralta in Capiz will start on September 16.
The commander of the Army’s 3rd Infantry “Spearhead” Division (3ID), Major General Dinoh Dolina, said these former rebels will be part of the Special Civilian Active Auxiliary. They will be assigned in their respective localities and help conduct peace and security.
“With the bold move of the RPA-ABB to make true to its promise to surrender their firearms and took full allegiance with the government, we are seeing that the just and lasting peace in Negros and Panay is within reach. They are now our partners in building a more progressive and developed Region 6 (Western Visayas),” said Dolina.
According to the report, the sites are in the towns of Cauayan, San Carlos City, Bago City, Tanjay in Negros Occidental, Kabankalan, Cadiz, Mason in Iloilo, and Ibajay in Aklan.
On Sunday, September 8, the ex-rebels surrendered 14 short firearms and 131 long firearms to the government. The military will give them uniform, government-issued weapons, and allowance after the training.
