Ramana is an ancient Sanskrit epic that followed Rama’s quest to rescue his beloved wife Sita. His wife was being held captive by Ravana.

The epic consisted of 24,000 verses spread across seven cantos. It also contained lessons from ancient Hindu Sages.

This piece of literature has had a huge impact on the art and culture if India. Versions of the story also appeared on Buddhist canon at an early date.

The Story of Rama has been retold many times in poetic and dramatic versions by India’s greatest writers. You could even see a narrative sculptures etemple walls.

According to British Library, originally there were five books of this oral epic was about the protagonist and his banishment. It was then made into seven books.

The was about the abduction of his wife and her rescue. Here, the protagonist, Rama, become an avatar of the God, Vishnu.

The scenes from this part of the epic portrayed the entirety of India. While the struggle to rescue his wife was a metaphor for the last triumph of the righteous.

The story started with Rama, prince of Ayodhya winning the hand of Sita, a beautiful princess. But they were exiled along with his brother Laksmana for 14 years.

This was through a ploy by his stepmother. While traveling in a forest, Sita was abducted by Ravana.

Because of this, Rama assembled an army of monkeys and bears in order to rescue Sita. Rama and his allies stormed Lanka, slayed Ravana and eventually rescued Sita.

For Sita to prove her chastity, she entered fire but was liberated by the Gods. She was then returned to her husband.

After their victorious return to Ayodhya, Rama continued his rule. This then lead to a golden and prosperous age for all mankind.
